The flywheel that drove
$33k in 53 minutes

(And how you can use it for your newsletter)

This flywheel got Katelyn Bourgoin over 2,586 people on her course waitlist.

Her course costs $475. You do the math 🤯

(check out her PAINKILLER course here>>)

Sure, the waitlist won't convert 100% to the course.

But...

The sales letter for the presale did $33k in 53 minutes (she said so in an email to her list this past fall).

And you can be sure it wouldn't have been as successful without this waitlist flywheel in full effect.

Here's how Katelyn's course waitlist flywheel works:

1. Someone joins the waitlist
2. They complete a survey sharing their top pain point
3. They receive access to Ouchy Pain Finder bot (so smart)
4. They get a follow-up email asking why they joined the waitlist
5. Katelyn's team uses the pain points to craft content to build the waitlist

Frickin' brilliant.

Katelyn is...

→ nurturing her waitlist
→ adding surprise & delight (with the Ouchy bot)
→ extracting insights to use in her copy

And guess what.

→ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.

Tweak his flywheel to nurture new subscribers—so you can drive MORE subscribers.

Get them 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 to be part of your newsletter.

You can do that by adding two simple steps to your subscriber onboarding:

1. Surprise + delight them.

Katelyn used the Ouchy Pain Finder bot as a free resource (aka Reverse Lead Magnet) to surprise and delight her new waitlistees.

You don't need to build a Chatbot. But you 100% have something you can share with a new subscriber that delivers value.

Whether it's a free resource, a popular blog post, or a curated list of relevant resources—everyone has something they can offer.

Surprise & Delight is such an underused strategy.

2. Extract insights & data

Add a 2 or 3-question survey to get more intel, like Katelyn did.

The information gathered should help you inform your own messaging—or, it should be used to learn more about your subscribers.

Use a survey tool like Google Forms or my personal fave: Tally (not a sponsor).

You can even use a poll question feature. Most ESPs have them built-in now.

That's it!

It's so obvious and so easy.

But almost nobody does this. The bar is LOW, folks. And the opportunity is huge.

Will you try this? >>

(PS - Justin is joining the GIR Pro community on January 29th to help us land more newsletter sponsorships. That's HUGE. Just one or two sponsorships could cover the entire GIR Pro membership for a year. That right there is what the kids call R-O-I 👀)

P.S. I’m opening up a limited number of ad spots in this newsletter for the first time in over a year.

If you’d like to promote your brand, product, or service to my small but mighty email list of ~3,700 newsletter creators, email marketers, and solopreneurs this could be ideal for you.

Sponsoring my newsletter could help you…

• Grow your list faster by sending clicks to your lead magnet or newsletter opt-in page.
• Surface clients and boost engagement by sending clicks to one of your social posts.
• Validate demand for a low-ticket digital product, SaaS, or other product by sending clicks directly to your product page.
• Borrow some of the trust I’ve earned over the years with my audience, and channel that warmth towards your brand.

I’m capping this at 3 sponsors between now and the end of Q1.

I’ll write the ad copy for you to ensure it’ll resonate with my audience.

Interested?

Reply with a sentence or two about what you'd like to get in front of my readers and a link to it. If it’s a fit, and the spots aren’t already claimed, I’ll respond with some email stats and pricing.

Either way, expect a response from me within the next few days. Thanks!
