is Substack right for your newsletter?
[Read the browser version right here] Hey hey Reader, Quick note before we dive into all the goods: → I'm in Boise this week for Kit's annual Craft + Commerce event. I've used Kit as my ESP for nearly 4 years. I started this very newsletter on Substack but switched to Kit not long after. I'm beyond stoked to attend this event, learn from the best in the industry—and *finally* meet some creator friends IRL—including Chenell who I've cohosted a podcast with for over 6 months! 3 Things: 1- And keep your eyes peeled* for our in-person episode we're recording in Boise! 2- If you're coming to Boise and see me/us, say "Hi!" Don't be a stranger. 3- And come to our IRL Meetup on Friday night. It will be all of the fun. The question is not so much "who" is moving over, but rather the "why" behind it all. And most importantly—should YOU? TL;DR: Substack has its benefits. And, not surprisingly, it also has its drawbacks. I was on a 1:1 call with a GIR Pro member this week. "I'm starting another newsletter," she told me excitedly. (She's already running several Substack newsletters.) "I want to try another ESP, but Substack is so easy to start something new that I'm just going to use it again." She's right. That's one of Substack's benefits: it's a turnkey operation. You can fire up a new publication in minutes without wasting time with landing pages, design, or anything. Not only that, but Substack's platform has evolved from a newsletter tool to a full-fledged creator OS with Notes (Twitter for Substackers), podcasts, video, and more. But life is all about tradeoffs. I won't spoil the rest—check out our episode, where we discuss the pros and cons of using a platform like Substack, and whether you should put all your eggs in Substack's very large basket.
